Trails of Transport
A Walking Tour in Camden engaging with the effects of the HighSpeed 2 train.
Narrative Environments | Audio Walking Tour | Community Engagement | Storytelling
The construction of HighSpeed 2 train aiming to connect Britain to the burgeoning train networks in Europe, was ripping through parks, graveyards, streets, villages and the countryside. History was repeating itself, what Charles Dickens once described as the ‘great earthquake’- the coming of the Railway to Camden Town, as the same area was being pulled apart yet again.

This walking tour questioned ideas of ‘progress’ while providing locals and tourists alike with an immersive audio archive traversing time and space, plummeting them into the history and future of Camden infrastructure.
A collaborative project with five peers on MA Narrative Environments. My primary role was to generate concepts, illustrations and provide creative direction for graphic elements needed for the project.
How could a walking tour become a space for local communities to discuss and dream the future they want?

Concept and Strategy
The Time Traveller and what they unearth
Comparing the construction for the HS2 with the advent of railway itself, our concept revolved around ideas of time and memory. The walking tour explored the past, present and future of the larger Camden area and narratives related to transport and culture.
