Pirate Castle Exhibition 2020

Project Brief

Design and create an exhibition to display the Rehab and Reuse project.

Develop individual ideas and come up with design proposals using IKEA LERBERG trestles and projector. Explore and test ideas through models.

Working as a group, combine ideas, tests through models, and prototypes made in various scales and hold discussions to create the final exhibition design proposal.

Address

 33 Oval Rd

Camden Town

London NW1 7EA

Individual Idea Generation

This is another group project but started with individual idea generation and model-making.

Using 1:5 scale models, visualizations and 1:1 scale joint prototypes, I presented my idea to the group. We then discussed each idea and combined them to produce a proposal for the exhibition. Since Pirate Castle provides various canal-based activities like paddlesport and boat-rides along the Regent's Canal, we wanted to create a unique experience for the people while promoting Pirate Castle and displaying our projects that reimagine the building.

Design Proposal as a group

We created a model as a group to express our combined idea for the exhibition. This enabled us to discuss possible layouts for the exhibition circulation and brought shortcomings in our initial proposal to light. I used photoshop to denote the places for the 3D and 2D material we had to display. The green represents portfolios, blue represents models.

Visualisation

I created a visual of our proposed group idea within the venue. This helped us understand the layout we discussed on paper and see what was lacking. We wanted to create a tunnel structure that people could walk through while videos from the boat ride we took along the Regent's Canal could be projected onto the screen covering the frame.

Final layout

The visualizations and models helped us to improve the circulation of the exhibition.

I created a final layout plan and a quick section based on our discussions.

Due to COVID-19, this exhibition which was set to be in the last week of April was cancelled.

We then decided to switch to creating an online experience, a digital exhibition for visitors. The link to it will be down below.
